Supergirl Season 4 Premiere: 7 Ups & 1 Down From 'American Alien'

3. Brainiac-5

One of the new regular characters this year is the Legion Of Super-Heroes' Brainiac-5. Brainy first appeared midway through Season 3 in a recurring capacity before actor Jesse Rath was promoted to series regular for the current season.

With Winn's absence, the show needed someone to fill the team's tech-wiz role and, quite frankly, Brainy is perfect for the job. With his incredibly quick-thinking mind and inadvertently sarcastic sense of humour, this 12th-level intellect has absolutely no problem offering his services, whether they're needed or not.

The premiere highlighted the teething issues that his promotion to the team caused as he needed to realise that he was no longer in the Legion while new D.E.O. director, Alex, had to realise that he wasn't Winn. It's commendable that the episode offered so much time to two characters who previously hadn't interacted all that often, so it was nice to see the dynamic between them develop.

With his excellent performance, Rath is undoubtedly one of the show's hidden gems and if he keeps progressing this way, then he won't be the show's best kept secret for much longer. He did a wonderful job during his guest appearances in Season 3 and he will more than likely be one of the standout aspects of the current season. Long live Brainy!
