Supergirl Season 4 Premiere: 7 Ups & 1 Down From 'American Alien'

2. Less Is More

Supergirl Evil Kara
The CW

When we last saw Kara Danvers in the Season 3 finale, she managed to save the world (and Sam Arias) from the Worldkiller known as Reign, using the Harun-El rock to split the Kryptonian demon from her human vessel. However, little did she know that she also split herself, creating another Kara that showed up Russia, leading to speculation that the show might tackle an adaptation of DC's iconic Superman: Red Son comic.

However, there wasn't a single mention of Kara II throughout the Season 4 premiere as the writers chose to focus on introducing a completely separate Big Bad instead... that is, until the closing moments. In a clever twist, the episode revealed that the broken railway track in Kaznia (that Supergirl rescued people from at the beginning of the episode) was actually caused by the other Kara punching her way into the foundations of the earth.

In that single moment, the episode proved itself to be more than "just another season premiere", reminding us that this seemingly evil Kara existed and that she will make her presence felt at some point throughout the season. It was just a little tease to remind us how Season 3 finished, and right now, that's all we needed.
