Supergirl Season 4 Premiere: 7 Ups & 1 Down From 'American Alien'

4. Sometimes It's Good To Be Bad

Supergirl Lena James
The CW

Ever since she was introduced back in Season 2, Lena Luthor has danced on the edge of darkness. Though she has a good heart and almost always does the right thing, she is often portrayed as being drawn to the power of her surname - something we saw once again in the premiere when she was visiting her imprisoned mother Lillian.

With James on the verge of indictment due to his vigilante activities as The Guardian, Lena offered to help him by getting the best lawyers to take on his case - to which he politely declined. In a completely separate matter, she also played Lillian, convincing her into revealing valuable information about Lex's former friend, criminal Bruno Mannheim, which she then gave to the District Attorney in exchange for them dropping the charges against James.

While this could potentially come back to harm her relationship, it was nice to see Lena once again masterfully prove that her way works too. She's not evil and it's highly unlikely that she ever will be, but she can use that darkness for the greater good every once in a while. That's why she's Lena Luthor.
