The Walking Dead Season 7: 6 Ups And 4 Downs From 'Say Yes'

3. The Rick Fakeout

The Walking Dead Michonne

One of the worst moments of last season on The Walking Dead was Glenn's 'death', where we saw him becoming walker-chow only to learn a few episodes later he'd pulled himself under a dumpster and managed to eventually escape.

Despite the ire, they did something similar by ending Season 6 on a cliffhanger - where they really did kill off Glenn - and still haven't fully learnt their lesson. Rick - seeing a deer (a terrible CGI deer at that) from atop the Ferris Wheel - ends up on the floor, at of bullets, and surrounded by walkers, who begin feasting upon him.

In fairness, this is intended to have a different impact than the Glenn fakeout. We know for certain they aren't gonna kill off Rick in this episode, and the purpose is to get Michonne's reaction and show how much she cares about him.

Surely, though, they could've written a way to get Michonne to that point that didn't invoke one of the show's dumbest moves of recent years, because watching it the thought wasn't about how much she cares about Rick, but rather 'I can't believe they're doing this again', right down to his re-emergence from the box he'd apparently been able to hide in.
