By 2006, WWE's tag team scene had changed drastically from the 2000-2001 period that so many fans knew and loved. Most of those popular teams were gone, and while some great ones had come to take their place - namely, MNM and Paul London and Brian Kendrick - the tag team divisions on Raw and Smackdown simply weren't getting the same level of focus as in the old days.

That changed, at least for one evening. At Armageddon 2006, London and Kendrick put their WWE Tag Team Titles on the line against MNM, William Regal and Dave Taylor, and a reformed Hardy Boyz in what was technically just a ladder match, but was easily a throwback to the glory days of TLC.

The story of the wild bout was that the technically adroit heavy-hitters played spoilers to the high-fliers, but were also afraid to climb the ladder themselves. When they finally did, Kendrick knocked them off, then London retrieved the belts for the win. Meanwhile, a freak accident involving the ladder smashed Joey Mercury's face in, giving the match a well-earned reputation for brutality.
