By 2015, many WWE fans likely thought they had seen the end of the wild multi-team ladder matches of previous years. Not only had the focus of TLC and other major ladder matches shifted to singles competitors, but there were few tag teams who merited the focus for such a bout.

That changed when The New Day won the WWE Tag Team Titles. As the hottest act in the company, their programs automatically became more interesting than the usual tag feuds, and their prime rivals became the babyface Usos.

At TLC 2015, the WWE Tag Team Championship match was given the ladder slot, and along with The New Day and The Usos, the high-flying Lucha Dragons were added to the mix. As Xavier Woods did commentary, the six other men in the bout brought back some very fond memories for longtime fans by using ladders for just about everything beyond and including their intended purpose.

In what seemed to be the bout's climactic moment, Kalisto hit a Salida del Sol on Jey Uso off the top of a ladder and through another ladder. When The Lucha Dragon tried to capitalize on the move, though, Woods hit him with a trombone, allowing Kofi Kingston to grab the titles.
