9. Sting Sits In The Rafters

WWE.comWWE.comPicture the scene: NWO was running wild in WCW and in storyline the WCW wrestlers weren't sure if Sting was for them or against them in their war with the NWO. Sting was upset by this, and spent around a year not speaking on the microphone on Nitro and sitting in the rafters with his baseball bat watching the matches. At the end of the time he declared himself pro-WCW and ended up facing, and defeating, Hulk Hogan for the WCW Heavyweight Title drawing around 750,000 Pay-Per-Views, which was a company record. The crowd loved Sting more than ever and were ecstatic when he won the title. It might have seemed a little strange to have one of you roster never wrestle or talk on TV for a year or more, but it worked. They transformed his character from what it was in the 1980's/90's and it paid dividends. They stuck with it and they were proved right in the end. tumblrtumblrThis might be WWE's problem - they often get itchy feet on an angle and cut it short. If they stick with their angles and character developments it will be a boon for the company.
