10 Longest Matches In WWE History
3. Bruno Sammartino Vs. Gorilla Monsoon (11 May 1964): 70 Minutes
Though most WWE fans likely remember Gorilla Monsoon for his chemistry with Jesse Ventura and Bobby Heenan in the announce booth, or his role as company president in the '90s, he was an accomplished in-ring performer in his heyday. He was hugely over in New York, and wrestled for the company's top prize several times throughout his career, though Monsoon was never able break Bruno Sammartino's WWWF Title reign despite dozens of attempts.
This was their seventh title fight. Bruno was 6-1 by this point, with the sole loss coming via disqualification. It turned out to be their most grandiose battle yet, and the first draw of their lengthy match series, with the bout crossing into its 70th minute by the time they hit the Madison Square Garden curfew.
Sammartino and Monsoon would wrestle each other many more times throughout their careers, with draws, count-outs, and disqualifications commonplace. If Gorilla went over Bruno, there was always a technicality attached, and by the '70s, he'd all but given up on trying to compete with the company icon.
