10 Most Disappointing Wrestling Entrance Stages Ever

6. King Of The Ring 1999

SummerSlam 07
WWE

The main event of King of the Ring 1999 saw Stone Cold Steve Austin go up against Vince McMahon and his son Shane in a Handicap Ladder Match with the winner gaining control of WWE. This angle was apparently the only thing the company cared about at the time as the entrance stage for the show consisted solely of ladders and the odd chain link fence panel.

Unlike previous years, there was nothing to indicate that the traditional King of the Ring tournament was even taking place.

Most WWE fans will agree with the argument that Billy Gunn was the most forgettable King of the Ring winner. His push went nowhere and audiences simply couldn't accept him as a main event guy. Gunn's entire singles run was plagued by strange booking but fans should have seen the writing on the wall when they set eyes on the KOTR stage.

It was clear that the focus was solely on the main event and the rest of the card had little impact on future plans.

It wasn't even as if the ladders or structures were exaggerated or integrated in to the set like the throne at the following year's event. They were simply placed in rows with a handful of them laid horizontal to create some strange, cheap archway.

For an event that has provided some unforgettable stages, King of the Ring 1999 will forever be seen as a bland misstep.
