Out of work and struggling to see where his career was headed, Dustin Rhodes picked up the phone to hear Bruce Prichard on the other side. Prichard said that both he and Vince McMahon had a character to pitch for Rhodes, but warned him that he best be sitting down to hear all about it. That character was Goldust.

Prichard described the gimmick as 'androgynous', something Dustin claimed he didn't have a problem with. In reality, he just didn't know what the word meant and had no clue he was agreeing to play a character who was of indeterminate gender. In other words, Goldust was going to court an awful lot of controversy in 1995's sugary-sweet WWF.

After hanging up the phone, Dustin looked op a dictionary to find out what androgyny meant. Even though he was shocked to read the definition, he was at odds with his father in '95 and eager to show Dusty that he could stand on his own merits.
