10 Worst TNA Gimmick Wrestling Matches

3. The Lockbox Challenge

How does it work?

That’s a very good question, one that some of the greatest minds in history might struggle to answer. Here goes…

Like Feast or Fired, there were four cases to fight for, each containing a prize. TNA’s Knockouts (that’s what they call women) were divided into two teams of four, and were put into an elimination tag match. But there’s a twist!

When an elimination occurred, both the eliminated and the eliminator were removed from the match. The loser was sent home empty handed, while the victor was given the key to a lockbox. After four eliminations, the key holders could claim their prizes.

What did the prizes include, and why was it awful?

For scoring an elimination in the esteemed Lockbox Challenge, Velvet Sky earned a contract for a match of her choosing, Tara won…her own pet tarantula, Angelina Love won Tara’s Knockouts Title, and Daffney was forced to strip naked.

Things proceeded to go from dumb to dumber as Lacey Von Erich interrupted Daffney’s striptease, only to begin removing her own clothes, while Angelina Love and Tara duked it out next to her. Velvet Sky went on to challenge Angelina Love to a Leather and Lace Match – a fine choice, indeed.

This didn’t happen in WCW in the late 90s; this happened in 2010.

None of this made any sense. You could eliminate yourself from the match by winning, the teams had no reason to work towards a collective win, and the chances of actually retaining your championship were so slim you might as well have not bothered showing up to the arena.
