10 Worst TNA Gimmick Wrestling Matches
2. Blindfolded Cage Match
How does it work?
No, the cage itself isn’t blindfolded, although that would only be slightly more stupid than the truth. This is a regular Six Sides of Steel Match, only the competitors are blindfolded.
Why is it awful?
We return to the cage once more, as TNA attempts to add yet another ridiculous stipulation to a match that already has one. What are the main ingredients for a good cage match, before you even consider hot feuds, good writing or strong character builds? You need a cage, an audience and at least two wrestlers, both of whom possess full use of their limbs, as well as competent use of their eyes and ears.
When you blindfold the wrestlers, you take away those last two factors, and completely grind the action to a halt. What’s even worse is, this took place during a genuinely heated feud, a breakup of TNA’s then-hottest tag team America’s Most Wanted. James Storm and Chris Harris could have torn the house down in a regular singles match, or even a regular cage match, so robbing them of their senses for this ponderous slug of a match made no sense whatsoever.
The match itself ended when James Storm took off his blindfold to superkick Harris. The ref didn’t disqualify him because he has been ‘blinded’ himself, after Chris Harris mistakenly put him in a sharpshooter. Unfortunately for anyone who watched it, Harris, Storm and referee Rudy Charles were the only people blinded during this abomination of a match.
