Title for Title. It's a rare occurrence in wrestling, but that's exactly what happened in February 2008. A pre-Michael Jackson Nakamura squared off against Kurt Angle in a unification match for the IWGP heavyweight titles. The unification was as a result of Antonio Inoki setting up another federation, the IGF (Inoki Genome Federation) after NJPW stripped Brock Lesnar of the IWGP title for failing to appear for a title defence. When Inoki set up the new federation he automatically gave Lesnar the IWGP title, while New Japan decided to give the title to someone else.

Kurt Angle defeated Lesnar for the belt at the first IGF event, and preceded to show off the belt at TNA events as well, defending it on a couple of occasions before this showcase against Nakamura was held. NJPW would never recognise Angle as the real IWGP champion, instead calling him the 2nd IWGP 3rd Belt Champion. The match itself doesn't have Nakamura's signature flare that we are accustomed to now, but it does have some technical wizardry that is to be expected from both men. The end sequence is also pretty flawless to watch.

Many people would love to see a sequel to this confrontation, and is a pretty hard match to find in general, but certainly worth watching.
