20 Mind-Blowing Facts About WCW

17. ECW Management Discussed An Invasion Of WCW

Ecw Vs Wcw

In the mid-to-late-1990's, ECW were being funded by Vince McMahon, not fully, but partly. McMahon gave ECW somewhat of a degree of financial security, enabling Paul Heyman to go about trying to make the company as big as it could be. His dream was national television, something which would quickly turn to a nightmare once TNN became involved.

Tod Gordon was Heyman's business partner, for all intents and purposes, but that would all change once Heyman found out that Gordon planned to orchestrate a storyline invasion of WCW, using several top ECW stars to facilitate such an angle. Wanting nothing to do with this, and feeling stabbed in the back, Heyman cut ties with Gordon, making the situation unattainable.

Imagine what it would have been like? Realistically, the situation would have likely played out similarly to the ECW 'invasion' of the then-WWF in 1997, something which was used mainly to promote the extreme group's first ever Pay-Per-View, Barely Legal. Paul Heyman obviously didn't really see WCW in the same light as he did McMahon's company, wanting nothing to do with them whatsoever.
