NXT doesn't do everything right but the things it gets correct it gets extremely correct. One such thing has been the way the developmental brand uses its authority figures, from Dusty Rhodes through JBL and all the way to current NXT General Manager, William Regal. The men in charge of the developmental show have been important yet still in the background, allowing the wrestlers to do the wrestling and the stories to be told inside the ring.

Would this happen if Regal were promoted to the top spot on RAW? A RAW broadcast without the authority figures all over the show is almost unthinkable, but the introduction of Regal into the GM's chair could well see a true new era dawn on the red show. The roster is full to bursting with talent, meaning the need for an overly visible authority figure is no longer there.

RAW is also full of graduates from NXT that Regal would surely be able to bring the best out of. More than 20 of the RAW roster used to perform full time on the NXT roster and being reunited with Regal could be exactly what stars like Big Cass, Bayley, and Sami Zayn need. Zayn in particular has had major problems with Mick Foley. What would The Underdog from the Underground achieve on the red show with the support his former NXT GM?

NXT's loss would be RAW's gain, and whilst this may rub many fans up the wrong way, it is important to remember that the yellow brand exists to feed the red and blue ones. Regal has done all he needs to in NXT, and a promotion would be very much deserved for one of the greatest wrestlers to never win a world championship.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
