8 Times Paul Heyman Said What Everyone Was Thinking

4. 'Triple H Didn't Want To Work Tuesdays!'

The verbal attack on Edge might be the more widely remembered part of Heyman's One Night Stand promo, but his best insult was aimed at JBL. Bradshaw was an outspoken critic of ECW, and reports at the time indicated that he got drunk at the PPV, and legitimately attacked Blue Meanie in the show-closing brawl. JBL had recently benefitted from an extensive WWE Championship reign on Smackdown, one stretching nine months from The Great American Bash 2004 to WrestleMania 21 the following year. Many were critical of this reign, especially as it came at the expensive of more universally popular workers such as Eddie Guerrero, Undertaker and Booker T. Heyman aimed a particularly knowing barb at JBL, saying that 'the only reason you were champion for a year was because Triple H didn't want to work Tuesdays'. It garnered an instant response and satisfied many who saw JBL as an undeserving champion. The mention of 'Tuesdays' was a reference to the day Smackdown is traditionally filmed on, hinting that had Triple H really wanted to, he'd have booked himself as champ instead. The comment single-handedly took down two of the most detested figures on the roster at the time in both JBL and the Game, and was pure ear-candy for thousands of disgruntled 'smart' fans.
