8 Wrestlers You Didn't Know Were World Champions

5. Curt Hennig

Curt Hennig World Champion Curt Hennig is a performer who was constantly lauded for every aspect of his abilities - be it his athleticism, charisma, personality or technical strength in the ring. He's often referred to as a huge missed opportunity with his stints at the WWF and WCW, as he missed out on world titles in both promotions, although he was certainly should have been on the rung of top-tier talent in both scenarios. While Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff were hesitant to put the big belt on Curt 'Mr. Perfect' Hennig, he was crowned a world champion long before his tenure at either company. After a bland initial run in the WWF in 1982, Hennig returned to the AWA and established himself as a rising star in no time at all. After numerous successful tag-team partnerships, he went on to pursue a solo career and defeated the iconic Nick Bockwinkel for his AWA World Heavyweight Championship, Hennig would then go on to hold the belt for an impressive grand total of 53 weeks. While Hennig wouldn't reach his full untapped potential later in his career, he already held one of the most meaningful world championships in wrestling at the time, having beaten one of the very best to get there.
