Upon losing the WWE Championship to John Cena in May 2011, The Miz was slowly phased out of the title picture and was largely marginalized in the remainder of the year. He formed a fun tandem alongside R-Truth, but once Truth was suspended for violating the Wellness Policy, Miz broke back out on his own and developed a new mean streak.

After annihilating the likes of Truth and John Morrison, Miz set his sights on the WWE Championship once again, challenging for CM Punk's title in a Triple Threat match also involving Alberto Del Rio at TLC. With his renewed aggression, he was viewed as a threat to the title, and also had two excellent wrestlers who could carry him to a great match.

And that they did. Del Rio and Punk already had a handful of enjoyable encounters, but including Miz in this matchup ended up being for the better. Del Rio and Miz worked over The Voice of the Voiceless for a majority of the match and even handcuffed him to the middle rope at one point.

Through the sea of carnage and broken bodies, Punk overcame the odds to remain WWE champion. It was an awesome ending to a very entertaining event that also saw Zack Ryder and Daniel Bryan capture gold.
