Whether it was WWE's intent or not, the Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz feud on the inaugural season of NXT took on a life of its own. Unsurprisingly, most fans laughed at the idea of Miz mentoring a seasoned veteran such as Bryan Danielson, but that was what made their dynamic so delightful. They were such polar opposites that they were the perfect rivals, and once Bryan was brought back to the company in the summer of 2010, resuming their rivalry was only logical.

Their feud seemed to heat up at just the right time with Night of Champions around the corner and Miz being in possession of the United States Championship. Bryan didn't want the title as much as he wanted to embarrass his longtime foe, but winning the gold would be an added bonus. And with as long of a reign as champ as Miz had at that point, the outcome was unpredictable.

At this stage of Miz's career, he had yet to have that one match that truly defined him as a main event level player, but this was definitely the match that solidified him as a star. Granted, most of that can be attributed to Bryan carrying him to such an exceptional matchup, but everything from the entertaining in-ring action to the emotion of Bryan scoring his first taste of WWE gold made this an instant classic.
