Few fans expected The Miz to hold the Intercontinental Championship for as long as he did, and by the fall, it looked like no one would be able to unseat him as champ. Even Dolph Ziggler, who had failed to take home the title on two separate occasions at Backlash and on SmackDown Live, respectively, had all but given up in his pursuit of the prestigious prize. But he challenged Miz for the strap one last time at No Mercy, and had he lost, he would have left WWE.

Of course, Miz and Ziggler have faced off no less than a dozen or so times on television in the last four years, but this encounter in particular stands out above the rest due to the story they told throughout their captivating rivalry. Miz was lighting the world on fire with his remarkable mic work each week while Ziggler was completely believable in the underdog role.

Fans desperately wanted to see the former World Heavyweight champion end Miz's tyrannical reign as champion, which is why their No Mercy match worked so well. Although The Spirit Squad and Maryse attempted to interfere on Miz's behalf, Ziggler found a way to come out on top and keep his career intact.

On a show that was headlined by Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt, virtually everyone agreed this was the match that deserved to close out the event.
