WWE: 10 Wrestlers Whose Lives Were Ruined By Substance Abuse

7. Scott Hall

Scott Hall Scott Hall is unusual on this list in that his substance abuse problem didn't kill him and he is still alive, albeit in a very debilitated way. He is best known as Razor Ramon in the WWE and he wrestled under his own name in the WCW. Scott Hall was a very talented and popular wrestler who achieved a lot during his career. He is a four time WWE Intercontinental champion, WCW Heavyweight Champion and he won nine tag titles in his career. Added to this, he was a founding member of nWo. But underneath his success, there lay some very murky goings on. In 1983, Hall was charged with second degree murder after shooting a man in an altercation outside a nightclub. Scott pled self defence but the case was dropped due to lack of evidence. In 2011 Hall admitted to killing the man in an interview for ESPN. He said that he was unable to forget about the incident. His substance abuse problems came to light in the 1990s. The WCW wove this sad situation into a storyline with Hall vandalising a limousine outside a nightclub whilst under the influence. Hall's wife divorced him in 1998 due to his drug habit. In 2010, Hall was arrested at a bar in Florida for being drunk and disorderly and resisting arrest. Apparently he was being abusive towards the bar staff and amateur wrestlers. TNA quickly let him go after that and he went into Rehab under the WWE's auspices. Halls health took a nose dive. He developed epilepsy, double pneumonia and also had a pacemaker fitted. Hall was not invited to Shawn Michael's induction into the WWE Hall of Fame amid concerns that he would not be able to keep sober. Subsequently, there has been a lot of medical emergencies plaguing Scott Hall. The fact that he is physically debilitated is clear to see, but there have been allegations of overdosing on opiates and benzodiazepines. Hall reconciled with his son Cody to mentor him as a burgeoning wrestler but according to Dana, Scott's ex wife, the reunion only lasted a month. A lot of Hall's supporters were surveying the scene with sadness. Eric Bischoff said that he wished there was something positive he could do but Hall's demons were killing him. Things have gone from bad to worse. In 2012, Hall was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend - he choked her - and he was slung in the drunk tank. In 2013, Hall's health problems reached a nadir with his friend Diamond Dallas Page taking him into his home in order to rebuild his life. There was also some fund raising done to get money for Hall's dental problems and a hip replacement. Hall is in a dreadful state these days - completely unrecognisable from the handsome Razor Ramon era when he swaggered confidently around the ring. It is a close call as to whether the vicissitudes of physically wrestling or drug abuse has led to his health problems - it is probably a combination of both but his addictions have worsened his health over the years. One thing is sure - he will never be in a wrestling ring as an opponent anymore.
