WWE: The Shield Not Expected To Receive New 3rd Member

The decision to turn Seth Rollins heel was apparently made at the last minute, according to this week's edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer. That fits with what we reported last week that the Rollins turn wasn't in the Raw script that most people saw. It was WWE's way of keeping it top secret from their own employees so that nobody could leak it out to the internet wrestling community. The report goes on to note that it's expected that Rollins will be getting new ring gear. This past Tuesday on WWE Main Event he was still wearing the same black vest that he wore when he was in The Shield. He wore a suit on Raw and Main Event when he wasn't wrestling, though, so the transition is in place. It seems likely that Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose will continue to wear their Shield attire although that could change considering the group is no longer made up of three members. Regarding the future of The Shield, they are not expected to gain a new third member. There was a WWE.com article about adding a third member of the group, but that's not because that was a plan. It's just a case of WWE.com doing what they can to get people to visit the site. What they are write on WWE.com are not things that are necessarily associated with the creative team. It's smart to not add a new Shield member. The group worked well in its original configuration and if they add to it then it just won't look or feel the same. The future of the Evolution group is also a hot topic of conversation because a lot of people seem to think that Rollins has joined the group with Triple H and Randy Orton. That may not be an official thing because with Batista taking a hiatus for a few months the group is currently on hold. It will be hard to convince viewers of that because they've had Rollins associate with Triple H so much already while Orton could become a tag team partner of Rollins when they go up against The Shield at some point. Whether they say Rollins is in Evolution or not, we know he's going to be in a more featured role. It may not have been planned too far in advance or set up in an obvious way on television, but it's done now and all we can do now is hope WWE has some interesting long term plans.
