Doctor Doom is the greatest comic book villain of all time. He's a dictator, sorcerer, and technological genius. On top of all of that, his memorable and menacing design was created with the idea of it personifying death itself.

Co-created by Lee and Kirby, Doctor Doom has been around since Fantastic Four #5 in 1961, and has gone onto be such an imposing and wonderful character. Typifying Marvel's approach during that decade, Doom originated as an ambiguous character .

Doom has one of the biggest egos in the Marvel universe, and that's a big part of what makes him so engaging. He wears a mask as he thinks his face his too scarred and hideous to be seen after an accident, and Kirby brilliantly expanded on this concept by drawing Doom's true face with only a small blemish, enhancing his vanity.

Kirby designed an imposing character that has real gravitas with everything he does. Lee and Kirby's impressive run on the Fantastic Four is one of the greatest in comics history, and having Doom as their nemesis is a large reason for their success.
