10 Superheroes You Didn't Know Had Shameful Origins

5. Gamora

You€™ll have seen her green visage slapped across the promos for Marvel€™s upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy big screen feature debut. Set for release this August, in all of the material released thus far, it€™s made clear her alliances. She is brought onboard of Peter Quill€™s misfit bunch of warriors, whose mission is to protect the galaxy and keep an artifact out of the clutches of Ronan The Accuser; a minion of big bad varicose-coloured, Thanos. In the latest trailer, she even butts head with Nebula. What has yet to make itself known - and who knows, this narrative strand may appear in the final film - is who her daddy is. Let us hark back a while to her beginnings. Which, were rather bleak. The sole survivor of the Zen Whoberis, an alien humanoid race, Gamora watched as her entire species were wiped out by a load of interfering religious zealots. Luckily, Thanos intervened and rescued her from a gruesome demise, escorting her to the safety of the past. Two decades into the past, actually. He equipped her with several abilities, and tweaked with her perceptions, so she never realised she was committing evil acts. Not exactly a cracking start to a new life, following the extinction of your race. But that€™s not the worst part - she didn€™t take advantage of her place in time to save the Zen Whoberis from their grisly fate.
