10 Times Marvel Comics Lost Their Damn Minds
6. Captain America Becomes A Werewolf
Captain America has always stood up for the fundamental ideas of the USA, truth, justice and the right to turn into a giant wolf monster.
During the 1992 storyline Man and Wolf, Cap is investigating the disappearance of a friend when he's attacked by werewolf slaves of the mad-scientist Nightshade. She injects Steve with a serum that makes him wolf out to try and make him another one of her slaves.
The American Werewolf in America is able to resist Nightshade's mind control, but is still stuck in his new form. Making the best of a bad situation, he teams up with X-Man and fellow werewolf Wolfsbane and clawed hairy-man Wolverine to stop Nightshade and her master Starwolf (Fox McCloud must have been busy practising barrel rolls). Also, Cable randomly shows up to help at one point.
Cap is able to become human again at the end of the story with the help of no-one's favourite wizard Dr. Druid (who was killed by a werewolf earlier but got better). However, mid-transformation, an evil clone from a completely different story bursts through the wall and Cap has to fight him in his in-between state of not a werewolf, but still a very hairy man.
The whole thing is ridiculous beyond belief but, honestly, kind of awesome as well.
