10 Times The MCU Was Right To Forget The Source Material

5. The Original Guardians Of The Galaxy - Guardians Of The Galaxy

Before 2014, the Guardians of the Galaxy were a very obscure property, unknown to even some of the most die hard Marvel comic fans. While the team is now one of the most popular in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, the original team from the comics would still be unrecognisable to a mainstream audience.

When the team was first introduced in 1969, there was no Star-Lord, no Gamora, no Drax, and no Rocket or Groot. Instead, the Guardians were made up of Charlie-27 and Martinex, two characters who ultimately cameoed in Volume 2, Major Vance Astro, and Yondu Udonta.

The team operated in an alternate Marvel timeline, 1000 years into the future, and while this may have been a fun world to explore in the MCU, it would have been much more difficult to bring the Guardians together with the Avengers for the eventual Infinity War.

While there's no doubt that James Gunn could have worked wonders with just about any character he chose to pull from the very depths of Marvel obscurity, we could have been robbed of some of the greatest characters to ever grace the MCU.
