8. Captain Britain

Heralding from Essex, Brian Maddock – aka, Captain Britain – was introduced in 1973. Originally, the character was involved in a random accident which gave him his superpowers, approached by a powerful wizard and offered the choice to become our titular superhero. Since then, Captain Britain has been the roommate of Peter Parker, travelled to another dimension in order to compete in a gladiatorial tournament, and formed the superhero collective, Excalibur.

Captain Britain could seriously open up the MCU – what with the character representing a non-American superhero – allowing for storylines to transpire beyond the confines of the United States. Besides that – in the past – the character has butted heads with everyone from Spider-Man to Jessica Jones, and comes with a myriad of mythological components – including the Holy Grail, Camelot, Merlin, the Black Knight – and countless more, not to mention the entire MI-13 story-ache, which would make for a great origins movie.
