10 Unpopular Comic Book Character Reboots (That Were Actually Perfect)

9. Teen Titans - New 52

One More Day Spider-Man
DC Comics

DC's company-wide New 52 reboot will likely go down in history as one of the biggest false-starts in fiction. Thankfully, it has more or less been redeemed by Rebirth, but that doesn't mean its more bizarre contributions can be ignored or forgotten. Case in point: the Teen Titans.

One of DC's most beloved franchises and a flagship comic line for the company, readers tend to have strong, generally positive feelings concerning the previous incarnations of the team.

Which why they turned hard on the New 52 versions, all of whom looked like rejected Tron characters. Tim Drake's Red Robin looked like a Falcon knockoff, Wonder Girl was a bratty trust fund baby, Kid Flash was a confused continuity mess, and Superboy was just out and out bad. Excluding fan favorite characters like Starfire and Raven certainly didn't help matters.

But despite the hate that the New 52 Teen Titans received, they did everything pretty much right, copying the story beats and meta-narrative of the Volume 2 Teen Titans that truly launched the franchise.

The team was form at least in part to spite the controlling mentors of the sidekicks, it focused in on the trials and tribulations of being a hormone-driven teenager in the superhero community, and it even introduced new, creative, and immediately likeable characters like Bunker and Solstice. So even though they looked like garbage and tried their best to distance themselves from their original IPs, the New 52 Teen Titans were good spiritual successors if nothing else.
