5 Strangest DC & Marvel Comics Sales Tactics

DC relaunched their Harley Quinn comic a couple years ago, and it is currently quite the popular series. However, before it came out they ran a contest where all the unknown artists out there could take part this in, "Open Talent Search," and submit their own drawing of Harley Quinn that corresponded to a script discussing certain panels in the comic.

Some of these panels featured Harley attempting to commit suicide by dropping a variety of electrical appliances into a bathtub she was bathing in.

So, to review, DC asked a bunch of artists to draw a picture that made suicide look sexy and funny--at least, that is how it sounded without the comic's context, and context is generally key in these scenarios. Understandably, people were not amused and DC issued an apology about the whole affair, saying it would instead ask contest participants to submit different imagery.

Oh, and the winner of that contest? He had actually contributed work to numerous companies, including DC, previously. This promotion turned out to be less odd and more stupid, truthfully.
