7 Image Comic Series Currently In Development For Film And TV

4. Southern Bastards - Jason Aaron, Jason Latour

Undiscovered Country

Described as a love letter/hate rant to the American deep south by writer Jason Aaron and artist/writer Jason Latour, Southern Bastards was released in 2014 to near universal acclaim. This Esiner and Harvey Award winning series is set in rural Alabama, where football is as important as church and the local high-school football coach is as venerated as Jesus Christ. Passion, corruption and prejudice run rampant in this southern-fried, murder filled drama.

Back in 2015 it was announced that Southern Bastards had been optioned for television by FX Studios. For several years no new developments were released. In early 2019, Aaron revealed on his website that the show was still potentially moving forward with notable producer Scott Rubin of No Country For Old Men and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo fame now at the helm. Aaron said that he and Latour were excited about who is involved with developing the show and how things appear to be progressing.

There are currently four Southern Bastards trades in print. The series is set to resume in 2020 with Latour writing and drawing issue #21.
