How Odin Lost His Eye
2. The Comic Book Odin
While the God of Thunder, Thor, was introduced to the comic book world in Journey into Mystery #86, Odin would join his son just six months later in November 1962's Journey into Mystery #86.
The son of one of the very first Asgardians - that being Bor - Odin became the ruler of Asgard not long after he and his two brothers defeated the fire demon Surtur. Those brothers would be lost during that fight, with Odin taking on his siblings' powers at that time.
Skipping ahead, there was the classic love story of all-powerful warrior meets all-powerful goddess, has a child, then brings that son to Asgard to be raised by his actual wife. Yes, Frigga is not the birth mother of Thor. Instead, Odin went off to make a baby with the goddess Gaea. Then again, the various comic book iterations of Odin have long established him as a womaniser who admits that he has more children than he can remember.
Anyway, back to that pesky eye.
In the standard canon of Marvel Comics, Odin's eye loss did again occur courtesy of his truth for knowledge. Just this time out, there was a twist.
