Star Wars: 10 Most Powerful Things Darth Vader Ever Did

8. Killed His Former Master - A New Hope (1977)

Even after years of training, experience and fighting together in the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi was not safe from the wrath of Vader, which came to fruition for the first time two decades after Kenobi had maimed his former pupil in Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Although their confrontation was short, one duel was all it took before Obi-Wan realised what he had to do: stop fighting back and allow his former apprentice to strike him down, which Vader swiftly did whilst Luke Skywalker watched in horror.

Although Vader only won the duel because Obi-Wan simply yielded the fight, the fact that Vader was able to go through with it and kill his master speaks volumes about how far lost Vader was into the dark side. All the friendships, relationships and good memories that Anakin Skywalker had experienced meant nothing to Vader, evident in the fact that he was able to kill Obi-Wan without so much as a second thought.

Granted, Darth Vader played directly into Obi-Wan's hands, as Obi-Wan was able to fulfil his claim of becoming more powerful in death, now able to guide Luke as a Force ghost, which ultimately led to the destruction of the Galactic Empire and the death of Vader himself. Although Obi-Wan got the last laugh, to do so, he had to recognise that Darth Vader was not Anakin Skywalker, the Padawan he knew and loved, but instead, someone far more evil.
