Listen, we realize that the past few years have seen more terrible re-imaginings of the Dracula and Frankenstein mythology than we had previously thought possible. Just last year, we forced to endure a particularly misguided interpretation of the modern Prometheus in I, Frankenstein. But this one actually deserves a chance. Victor Frankenstein stars James McAvoy as the eponymous mad scientist and Daniel Radcliffe as his assistant Igor, both talented young actors who have developed quite a nose for good projects. And while there will undoubtedly be a certain amount of gothic horror, this version of the story focuses much more on the relationship dynamics between Frankenstein and Igor. It is told from the perspective of Igor, and explores the two characters in a way that will show both of them in a new light. Encouragingly, the film will also star Jessica Brown Findlay of Downton Abbey fame, Andrew Scott, and Mark Gatiss, which makes us hopeful that Victor Frankenstein will prove to be a high quality film in regards to its acting performances.
