10 2018 Movies That Could Score 100% On Rotten Tomatoes
7. Mary Poppins Returns
Release Date: December 25
The Buzz: Though most sequels conceived decades after-the-fact end up being pretty middling affairs (i.e. Tron: Legacy), the recent Blade Runner 2049 was proof perfect of how a belated follow-up can indeed breathe new life into a classic movie and score surging reviews in the process.
It's important to remember that the original 1964 Mary Poppins actually has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, so there's already a precedent set with this character.
Plus, with a perfectly-cast Emily Blunt taking over the title role, while Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda writes the music and Oscar-nominated screenwriter David Magee (Life of Pi) pens the script, there's a lot of ticks in the win column here.
One suspects Disney wouldn't be resurrecting such an iconic character unless they had an absolute masterpiece up their sleeves.
