2. X-Men: The Last Stand
It all fit so perfectly. Three X-Men movies, three years apart. A trilogy that jump-started the modern superhero franchise boom. Before Marvel was making their own decades-long mega-series, the trilogy was the coveted series length.
The X-Men actors were expensive, and Fox could only afford one more movie with all those famous faces. And so, audiences were served their final outing with X-Men: The Last Stand. And what better story to end the series with than the Dark Phoenix story?
Wait a minute. That sounds familiar. That was thirteen years and nine movies ago (if you include spinoff films). Disney bought Fox, and the X-Men are headed to the MCU. And, in a strange repeat of history, Dark Phoenix now seems like it's going to be the last movie in the X-MEN series.
