10 "Final" Entries In Movie Franchises (That Totally Weren't)
3. The Final Destination
Final Destination was always an odd movie to become a franchise. The series had no defined villain (their Death was portrayed not by a slasher mask but by a series of odd coincidences that led to elaborate Rube Goldberg-style murders), their characters almost never made it out of their films, and the set pieces had to get more ludicrously elaborate the longer the series went on.
So when audiences heard that The Final Destination was coming (and in 3-D, no less), the end seemed near. After all, it wasn't called a final destination, it was the final destination. Does it get more final?
Turns out, it does. Two years later, Final Destination 5 was released, creating a cool new twist on the classic mythology of the series and tying back into the original in a fun and surprising way.
And there's that ever-persistent rumor that there's another entry in the works. Death has been quiet for a while, but don't expect him to quit just yet.
