10 "New" Movies That Just Ended Up Ripping Things Off

2. Wonder Woman Owes A Debt To Captain America

Wonder Woman
Warner Bros.

As entertaining as Wonder Woman is, it borrowed a hell of a lot from 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger.

Where to begin? It revolves around a newfound superhero making a huge difference during a real historical war, complete with a memorable war zone battle sequence.

In addition, there's a guy called Steve who rides a motorcycle at one point and makes a heroic sacrifice in a plane, a band of ethnically diverse soldier allies, a hammy German villain with an intellectually superior sidekick, a present-day frame narrative, a doomed romance that can never be, and an unsubtle setup for the big upcoming ensemble event movie.

Though most will insist that Wonder Woman is the better movie, it clearly owes a huge debt to Cap to be as good as it was.
