10 80s Films That Deserve The TV Reboot Treatment
8. The Breakfast Club
John Hughes' seminal 1980s film about teen angst and diversity. A film that truly captures the struggle of being a teen in high school has become a timeless piece of cinema.
What became of the brain, the athlete, the basket case, the princess and the criminal? Did their differences ultimately define them? Did they achieve their dreams or settle for something else? and, perhaps most importantly, did the lessons they learnt from that fateful Saturday take hold? These are all questions that could be answered in a new TV-format look at the gang.
Working as an episodic look at city living for a group of people whose heyday was in the 1980s, as a TV show The Breakfast Club could further explore its already universal format whilst allowing for ample screen time and focus for each central character.
How It Should Work
Set in and around Chicago we follow each character as they lead completely different lives. For Bender he never got over the one that got away: Claire, who now lives in a loveless marriage. Andrew, blaming an injury but ultimately not being good enough, never made it as a sports star and instead teaches gym in a run-down school.
Whilst Allison and Brian found success in their respective fields they have become shallow and cynical. A chance encounter between two of the group brings everyone back together.
