10 Abandoned Movie Sets You Can Visit In Real Life
8. Dyersville, Iowa - Field Of Dreams
Field of Dreams is a 1989 American sports fantasy based set on a picturesque family farm where farm-owner Ray feels he just has to construct a baseball field on his farm, one which eventually plays host to all manner of past baseball heroes.
Whilst there, die-hard fans can book onto a 30-min tour of the large Iowan farmstead too. The first-floor of the house has been completely restored to appear exactly as it did when Kevin Costner owned the farm and built the original baseball field in and amongst the sheaves of wheat.
The field itself is free to enter, and plays host to a whole host of events and competitions throughout the year, not to mention a gift shop for all sorts of Field of Dreams memorabilia.
There's currently quite a push to go down to Dyersville. The iconic baseball pitch has been there ever since filming, attracting enough trade to convince Major League Baseball to hold its very first game in Iowa on the very same pitch from Field of Dreams. This monumental match-up will see the Chicago White Sox play off against the New York Yankees in a purpose-built, 8,000 seat arena set into the farm.
