1. Olympus Has Fallen (2013)
Just to show there's no such thing as too much of a good plot, we have the most recent addition to the Die Hard imitators, English actor Gerard Butler plays White House Secret Service Presidential protector Mike Banning. In true Die Hard imitation style, Banning is (yes, you guessed it) a guilt ridden man. At the start of the film President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) and his First Lady Margaret have an icy cold accident when their convoy falls into the river. Banning can only save the President and Margaret dies an icy death. 18 months later, Mike is no longer working as the President's protector, but he is within eyeshot of the White House. During a meeting between President Asher and the South Korean Prime Minister, an ex-North Korean terrorist attacks the White House from within, as events heat up and the action intensifies Banning joins Team White House to stop the terrorists from killing everyone. Keeping with the Die Hard tried and true formula, Banning saves the day. It is only in the interest of avoiding spoilers that I do not reveal more about the plot.
