6. Brigitte Bardot Vs. Henri-Georges Clouzot
Even as one of the top sex symbols of the 1960s, Brigitte Bardot received no special treatment on the set of The Truth. In fact her relationship with Henri-Geroges Clouzot was quite strained. For one thing, Bardot's character isn't viewed in a positive light for much of the film. She was portraying a loose woman, who was on trial for murdering her lover. Amazingly the former was almost just as taboo as the latter in France during those days, so Brigitte would likely have come under fire by some conservative people for playing in such a scandalous role. Clouzot would make sure her public image was the least of her concerns. With her character overdosing on sleeping pills at one point, Clouzot did what any logical director would do and he tricked Bardot into thinking she was taking aspirin. Only after the scene was filmed would Bardot get her stomach pumped, although thankfully Clouzot was kind enough to not go uber-realistic and give her a fatal dose. Clouzot was also not afraid to get physical during their rows and once while he was shaking her by the shoulders, he yelled, "I don't need amateurs in my films - I want an actress!" Bardot then slapped him and responded with, "I need a director, not a psychopath!"
