9. Mark Ruffalo
AKA Hulk from The Avengers. But Mark Ruffalo should be known for more than that; before Avengers came along he featured in a number of more cerebral pictures, most notably as Detective Toschi in the true story of American serial killer Zodiac (2007). Ruffalo's another one for the low-key school of acting, never really raising his voice or changing pitch and often giving that non-face of "you don't know what I'm thinking" that works so well in slowly unravelling movies like Zodiac. Okay, he's also been in a few stinkers, but these are pretty much cancelled out by his appearance Stan the naïve technician in the truly fascinating Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004 - Jim Carey's least objectionable performance). I guess it's a testament to the guy's range that he can do all the above and still pull off playing Bruce Banner.
