It's nearly impossible to think about Kate Winslet without thinking about Titanic at the same time, and though the actress has accomplished great things on the silver screen since she shot to worldwide fame in that movie (she won an Oscar in 2009 for her role in The Reader, you'll remember), her performance as Rose DeWitt Bukater in James Cameron's billion dollar behemoth remains her most memorable and recognised role, for good or for worse. What's surprising is that James Cameron was originally unsure about her; she really had to convince him. And by "convince" him, we mean that Winslet had to beg Cameron to let her play Rose, and spent many months campaigning for the role, even as the director sought out other actresses. In order to sway his judgement, then, Winslet sent Cameron daily notes from England, which eventually got her invited for an audition. She later sent him a rose saying "From Your Rose," and told him over the phone: "You don't understand! I am Rose! I don't know why you're even seeing anyone else!" Eventually Cameron caved and the rest, as they say, is history. Like this article? Got any to add? Let us know in the comments section below.
