10 Actors Who Didn't Realise They Were In Crap Films
7. George Clooney - Batman And Robin
When Batman V. Superman hits and Ben Affleck becomes the Dark Knight for a whole generation we'll be nineteen years and two reboots away from Batman And Robin. And yet the spectre of Joel Schumacher's day-glo sequel still looms large. There's been bad superhero movies since, but none have had such a seismic impact on the whole genre; Batman And Robin's failure directly led not only to the reverence of early hits like X-Men and Spider-Man, but also the dark and brooding take on the character that gave The Dark Knight Trilogy so much success. From day one the film was fighting a losing battle. The whole production was rushed, with Val Kilmer, who had played Bruce Wayne in the previous film, forced to leave due to scheduling conflicts. Cue the arrival of rising TV star George Clooney as Gotham's protector. Looking to break into movies and seeing the box office returns of Batman Forever, Clooney jumped at the chance to star in the film, even suggesting ways to the the director. Little did he know how badly the film would tank. That was the real shock with Batman And Robin. That it was of questionable quality didn't surprise many people (although quite how bad it went was unexpected), but what really shook Warner Bros. was how it failed at the box office, with audiences refusing to come out and see the panned movie.
