Charlize Theron is an incredibly talented actress, and she has played numerous roles throughout her decades-long career. Throughout that time, she has often picked up parts that emphasize her skills in acting, and for the most part, those roles were age-appropriate.

When casting for Wonder Woman was underway, Theron was contacted about taking part in the movie.

She wasn't too familiar with the character, but the prospect of headlining a film for the DCEU was at least interesting to her. Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication as to which part they were offering her.

In an interview with What What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Theron explained that she thought she was being offered the titular role of Wonder Woman, when in fact, she was up for the party of Hippolyta, Wonder Woman's mother.

"This is a great example of how Hollywood like slaps you in the face when you start aging."

She ended up turning down the role, which would have placed her as Gal Gadot's mother; a woman who is only eight years younger than she is. That role eventually went to Connie Nielson, who is 19 years older to Gadot where Theron is only nine years older than she is.
