It takes more than acting chops to play a character like Wolverine; an actor also needs to look the part. To be fair, Hugh Jackman is nearly a foot taller than his character, but fans never seemed to mind that discrepancy. Looking beyond that, Wolverine has to be physically fit, handsome, and more than a little hairy.
A gruff exterior helps a lot in conveying who Wolverine is, which is why one name that almost always tops lists of potential replacements is Travis Fimmel.
Fimmel's biggest break to date is playing Ragnar Lothbrok on the History Channel's Vikings, but he also starred in 2016's Warcraft: The Beginning. While that film failed to perform at the box office, it did show his range and proved he's looking to break into a new franchise. He's been cast in several feature films set to release in 2019, which suggests he's breaking further into Hollywood and may be on Disney's radar.
For anyone who's seen Lothbrok's range of emotion play out on the screen, it's easy to see Fimmel as Logan. He has the look and the acting ability to handle the role, which may lead Disney to cast him when the time comes.
