10 Actors Who Could Play Famous Movie Critics

10. James Spader As A. O. Scott

James Spader as A.O. Scott Before going into some of the older legends on the list, let's talk about one guy who's still very much alive and kicking. A.O. Scott is on his way to legend status as the current chief film critic of The New York Times, along with Manohla Dargis. Thanks to his appearances on Ebert & Roeper, while Ebert was battling illness in 2006-2007, Scott has become one of the most recognisable film critics in the US. For being such a strong supporter of films wrongly scathed by almost everyone else (A.I.: Artificial Intelligence, Where The Wild Things Are...) and as one of the most popular film critics still active today, a film featuring Scott would be a great reminder that film criticism is far from dead. So can we please have James Spader? Spader has become something of an everyman in movies. From the early days of Sex, Lies and Videotape, through small independent dark comedies like Secretary to stealing every scene in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, Spader has proven time and time again that he can pretty much sink his teeth into any role for any budget. One of Spader's greatest qualities is the kind of determination he can radiate that would suit A.O. Scott's passion for film. And film isn't the only thing Spader succeeded in. Thanks to his sarcastically delicious role on Boston Legal he became one of TV's biggest stars. Spader definitely has the acting chops to pull off A.O. Scott and it doesn't hurt that they look like mirror-images of each other.
