Having already had a fairly substantial role in Bond before as Charles Robinson, Colin Salmon would become the first non-white Bond, and the first to have already appeared in the franchise, should he be cast next. That hasn't stopped him from hoping though; he claims that "If I don't get the part, I won't think it's because I'm black," but still would love to play the part one day. Pierce Brosnan has backed him for the role, and there's no doubting he'd put an intelligent, thoughtful twist on a character that's seemed more action-heavy lately. Maybe the 007 producers should take out of Doctor Who's book, and cast someone already with a role in the series. Salmon himself has appeared in Who, and has often been touted for the titular role of the show.
