10 Actors That Gambled Their Careers By NOT Taking Huge Movie Roles

6. Emilia Clarke - Anastasia In Fifty Shades Of Grey

Pulp Fiction/Forest Gump

There were MANY girls up for the role of Anastasia in the god awful movie adaptation of the pervy Twilight fanfiction: Fifty Shades.

While the part eventually went to newcomer Dakota Johnson, before this was the case a certain dragon lover was rumoured to be in consideration. Of course, at the time of casting, there were rumours upon rumours about which Hollywood sweetheart would be getting defiled on-screen; most of them untrue.

In a recent interview, Emilia Clarke did actually confirm the rumours. She told The Hollywood Reporter that while she loved what director Sam Taylor-Johnson had planned for the trilogy, she had spent every day since her nude scene on Game Of Thrones answering questions about it and dealing with sexist comments. Emilia, rightly so, didn't want to go through that again.

However, Fifty Shades managed to create a career for Miss Johnson, opening doors for comedy movies, indie flicks and blockbuster action films. Meanwhile, Clarke has found it difficult to break out of the box she got into by taking the iconic role of Daenerys Targaryen.

Did the risk pay off for Clarke? Well, now that Game Of Thrones has finished, she has appeared in a critical flop Christmas movie and... that's it. Seems that maybe taking on Fifty Shades may have been the right choice after all if it meant a career after her tv show. But is a successful career really worth the harassment it would have brought about? Clarke definitely didn't think so.

Lily thought it was about time she wrote Top Ten lists for people other than herself. She also owes her dog a lot of money so she thought it was about time to pay her dues. There is no tv show she likes that she hasn't seen at least twice.
