10 Actors That Gambled Their Careers By NOT Taking Huge Movie Roles

5. Christina Applegate - Elle Woods In Legally Blonde

Pulp Fiction/Forest Gump

When Christina Applegate was given the script for Legally Blonde, the pure magnetic joy for some reason didn't rub off on her. To be honest we're all lucky it didn't because a version of Legally Blonde that doesn't star Resse Witherspoon is a version we do not want to see.

For Applegate, the script bared too many similarities to the job she had just finished: Married With Children. But a closer look at Applegate's character in the tv show proves that she really didn't understand the message of the girl-power movie that is Legally Blonde.

While Elle Woods was a smart, morally good and determined young woman, Applegate's character Kelly was a narcissistic, promiscuous and bratty rich girl. If the actress couldn't see the real depth of Elle, she didn't deserve the role.

Apart from a staring role in Anchorman, Applegate's decision to separate herself from the iconic movie led to a career of awful comedies and cringe-inducing cartoon sequels for Alvin and The Chipmunks and Cats and Dogs.

But while the risk didn't pay off for Applegate, meriaculously, the actress' career has experienced a slow resurgence in recent years due to her inclusion in the Netflix series: Dead To Me.

Lily thought it was about time she wrote Top Ten lists for people other than herself. She also owes her dog a lot of money so she thought it was about time to pay her dues. There is no tv show she likes that she hasn't seen at least twice.
